ERIC Database projects

The ERIC CLL Database is one of the 3 databases maintained by ERIC, allowing correlations between different types of data, thus bridging the many forms of biological and medical information.

ERIC LL Database

The ERIC Databases are an initiative of ERIC, the European Research Initiative on CLL, a Scientific Working Group (SWG) of the European Hematology Association (EHA) aimed at improved management of CLL through collaborative research

Thanks to the active participation of its members, ERIC engages in projects extending from basic to translational and clinical research.

The ERIC CLL Database includes clinical and biological data from patients with CLL, coming from different medical centers and laboratories

Types of Projects

Projects using primary data

- including projects requiring the collection of new data and/or update of previous data and/or new variables

Projects using secondary data

- including new projects using data previously collected to answer other research questions

ERIC LL Database

- Projects using primary data -

The ERIC CLL Database can be easily expanded or adjusted for new projects, since the system is modular and allows the rapid introduction of additional categories and values according to the aims of the project.

Requirements for data providers:

  • Informed consent (project specific or general)
  • Ethics approval (project specific or general for retrospective studies)
  • Authority to transfer the data to ERIC under the Data Sharing Agreement (DSA)

ERIC LL Database

- Projects using secondary data -

Data already collected in the ERIC CLL database can be used to answer new research questions.

Requirements for data reuse:

  • The investigator that has contributed the data provides approval.
  • A signed Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) between the data provider and ERIC must be in place.

Data collection

  • - The most common approach for data acquisition in a retrospective way is the collection of project-related data using a template registration file (Excel Worksheet).
  • - Custom, flexible and adjusted solutions for data collection can be configured according to project requirements (eg. electronic Case Report Forms)
  • - To ensure data protection, pseudonumized data are collected, adequate and related to the purpose of collection, limited to what is necessary, in compliance with GDPR.
  • - The correspondence between original and anonymized records (as well as the ability to track changes) is stored only at the local level.
  • - Data access to data coming from other centers is not allowed.

Data integration

Collected data are processed, cleaned and curated, before utilized for analsysis, to answer the study objectives. After the end of the project, data is imported into the ERIC CLL Database.

Exceptions:

  • Type of project:
  • Center:
  • Investigator:

Data contribution

- Participation in future projects is not mandatory -

Data uploaded to the ERIC CLL database can be re-used in new projects approved by the ERIC board for research purposes, ONLY if data providers consent to the new analysis.

The Principal Investigator (PI) of each center decides each time if data from the particular center will be used for a specific project.
After approval, project-related data can be exported and anonymized to be included in the analysis.
